Abstract

We care about Sylvia Plath because of her poems, and her progress toward her last poems is one of modern literature’s most exciting narratives. For her to approach the kind of rebellious confidence she finally developed required not only immense learning and experimentation in her writing, but a newly defined sense of herself as artist, as well as a more personal philosophy of art.
