Conversational Japanese Data
The conversation data for this study consists of two-party informal conversations by eight pairs of native speakers, which were both video- and audio-recorded for the purpose of the present study. Each pair’s conversation is 30 minutes long; the entire data consists of four hours of conversation in total. The overall procedures for data collection follow Maynard (1989: 13–15) and are summarized as follows.
