From a Science to a Philosophy of Management

  • Steven Segal

Abstract

Whereas science operates under conditions of stability, philosophy operates under conditions of disruption. The way we think under conditions of stability is very different from the way we think under conditions of disruption. Under conditions of stability we look for regularities. Under conditions of instability, it is precisely the pattern of regularities that is disrupted. Science is based on a process of looking for regularities. Philosophy is an activity that occurs when we cannot expect regularities.
