Abstract

This book has explored the syntactic nature of cleft constructions in Japanese. The discussions in the preceding chapters have led to the conclusion that the cleft construction is not a distinct theoretical entity, but rather, that the construction results from a combination of other basic structures which are required in the grammar of the Japanese language on all accounts.
