Abstract

Many autobiographers described the sexual instruction and images they had received in youth. Men wrote frequently about obtaining sexual information from friends, books and magazines. Women were more likely to discuss school sexual education or the moral teachings they were given in their childhood home. Approximately one-third of the men and less than one-fifth of the women recalled receiving sexual images and information from peer groups. The focal points of these stories were pregnancy and lovemaking.
