Half of this total is accounted for by South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis). ‘Black’ ethnic groups (Black African, Black Caribbean and Black Other) make up 1.6 per cent of the total population while Chinese and other ethnic groups make up 1.2 per cent of the population (Teague, 1993).
