Abstract
It is the silly season. There is no obvious lead story: there is a sidebar about Manchester United and a strapline, I HATE MY BOOBS, THEY’RE SO AWFUL. But the banner headline, as the holiday season begins, is BRITAIN’S NASTIEST PARENTS (Daily Mirror 23 July 1999). Underneath is the story of a couple whose ten-year-old daughter has broken her arm at the airport: they send her off in a taxi to her grandparents and take the other children on the planned holiday.
