Abstract

Financing the state can be a challenge for many governments. For governments of informal states it seems to be an especially immense challenge. Access to the international market — be it in trading or in taking credits from financial institutions — is limited under circumstances of non-recognition. How do Northern Cyprus and Transdniestria manage to survive, and how do their strategies and tactics of survival influence internal political dynamics and power relations?
