Abstract

On the afternoon of 29 October, the Israelis launched their paratroop attack on the Mitla Pass, forty-five miles from the town of Suez. Other Israeli forces crossed the border into Sinai in support. Dulles reacted immediately, telling the British and French Chargés that the USA would go to the UN Security Council forthwith with a resolution calling on the Israeli troops to withdraw and on member states to refrain from giving any assistance to Israel.
