Abstract
Hitler came to power through an extraordinary concatenation of political and economic crisis, personal gifts and psychopathology. The historical circumstances which paved the way for Hitler have been studied extensively, and Hitler’s family background has been explored as far as the meagre documentation allows (e.g. Bullock, 1986; Fest, 1974; Toland, 1977; Flood, 1989). Yet, the undoubted vital interconnection between Hitler’s charismatic power as a political leader and his inner world remains obscure.
