Abstract
The contrast in the outcome of the reform process in the two giants of communism has arguably been the most important event in international political economy in the last quarter of the twentieth century. The contrast will have consequences that will resonate well into the next century. In this book I attempt to explain the reasons for this remarkable contrast.
