Abstract

This chapter discusses a set of central issues raised by the ‘new’ growth theory, which will be the focus of attention in this empirical investigation. It will also describe the main features of the econometric analysis that will be carried out to test a number of hypotheses relating to long-run growth with endogenous technological change. Special attention will be devoted to issues relating to the testing of theory on a OECD manufacturing data set, and to the unavoidable restrictions imposed by data availability.
