Abstract
Strachey was a synthetic thinker; a lover of ideas, easily seduced and possessing the dangerous capacity to enhance their seductive power. The Keynes of the Tract, the Keynes of the General Theory, J. A. Hobson, Oswald Mosley, Marx, Lenin, Gunnar Myrdal, Herman Kahn and the American deterrent theorists — all left their imprint and all were the beneficiaries of Strachey’s remarkable gift for popularisation. In the case of Marx and Keynes, of course, the imprint was indelible.
