Abstract

The first half of this book has looked at the production and distribution of cocaine, crack, heroin, cannabis and synthetic drugs. It has shown how these activities generate and finance terrorism, crime and corruption, at their worst in Peru and Colombia, but also in many other countries involved in production and distribution. The rival guerrillas fighting the civil war in Afghanistan, for example, are almost entirely funded by opium production. All of these evils are financed by the money paid by drug addicts, mainly on the streets of the USA and Europe.
