Abstract

Institutional as well as other constraints, which a foreign applicant faces in finding jobs, distribute foreign workers disproportionately among sectors and occupations in a significantly different way to nationals. The distribution patterns differ also among foreigners by nationality and by different population groups, reflecting their different historical backgrounds, the diverse conditions they can enjoy in Japan and also their demographic peculiarities.
