Abstract
The aim of the last chapter was to outline the general constitutional, administrative and political position of the French Prime Minister in the Fifth Republic. It is now necessary to analyse the Prime Minister’s role in the policy-making process in more detail. As such, it is important to appreciate that the Prime Minister is only one component of a wider set of institutions, which might collectively be called the core executive1.
