Abstract
Standards are on the rise. Global regulation often now takes the form of standard-setting. Presently, standards are no longer limited to issues of technology; they have started to address all kinds of public policy issues. Standards now shape the way firms manage their financial risks and seek to avoid damage to the natural environment, the way schools and universities seek to educate, and even how countries should best design their social policy.
