Abstract

The transitional dilemma will be investigated in the light of the experience drawn from Latvia. Examination of the Latvian case should highlight the way in which a political system mediates the relationship between democracy and economic reform. The political preconditions for a successful economic transition are characterized in terms of political feasibility, which is introduced as an auxiliary concept to operationalize the problem.
