Abstract

Canada is usually overshadowed by its North American neighbour, the USA. Most discussions of transport policy either completely ignore Canada or lump Canada and the USA together in an aggregate treatment of North America. In fact, the transport situation in Canadian cities is quite different from that in the USA, and much of the difference is due to government policies. The contrast between the USA and Canada in urban transport is especially interesting given the many fundamental similarities between the two countries.
