Abstract

The main objectives of this study were to examine three research questions. The first task was to identify correlations in the development of politico-economical structures and the media in the two countries. The second aim was to investigate the impact of changing regulatory frameworks, media polices and media structures on British and German broadcasting. Third, the book set out to explore the shift from sociopolitical imperatives of media policy-making towards economic rigour, and to pinpoint consequences. Beyond that, the study sought to draw generalizations from the investigation of the two cases to other liberal capitalist Western democracies.
