Abstract
The client asks Peter Boback to help him resolve a difficult situation—he has been offered an attractive and potentially highly visible and rewarding assignment but despite its attractiveness, he is concerned about the resources available and whether he has the competencies to make the assignment a success. The coachee seems to expect the coach to confirm his pre-established expectations, while the coach is reluctant to reduce his engagement to a confirmatory or advice-giving role.
