The goal of this chapter is to summarize the available knowledge on Hungarian agencies. Compared to other countries, there is little systematic study of agencies in Hungary. Almost all of the existing writings are confined to the analysis of specific legal problems or legal measures from a purely legal-positivist (and practitioner-oriented rather than academic) perspective. Empirical studies have been rare, and with a few exceptions (Nyitrai 1995; Budai 2008a-b; Papházi and Rozgonyi 2008) are largely descriptive, single-case studies.
