Abstract

The second Australian case study under discussion presents a contrasting story to the first.1 In this case, the relevant interest advocates responded cooperatively to a citizens’ forum on gene technology in the food chain.2 This is an issue that has sparked controversy worldwide. The fact that it attempts to control or modify genes, or move them between two unrelated species, raises key concerns about its potential risks to food safety and human health, as well as ecological and ethical questions.
