Abstract
Billy Hutchinson, a former UVF prisoner and political representative of the PUP, gained a seat at the Northern Ireland Assembly along with his political colleague David Ervine after the GFA in 1998. Engaged in dialogue and negotiations with both British and Irish governments throughout the peace process, Hutchinson played an important part in facilitating the political transition, which was to draw the UVF away from violence.
