Abstract
The unprecedented concurrence of high oil prices, rising alarm about the impact of carbon-based fuels on global climate change, and heightened concern about the security of energy supplies has dramatically boosted interest in alternative energies. Renewable energies are on the rise. Although the economic and financial crisis slowed down the overall growth of these alternative energy sources, and declining energy prices put pressure on renewable energy revenues, the long-term trend continues unabated. Renewable energies will account for a higher share of the generation mix in the coming decades.
