Abstract

On May 12, 2008 at 2.28 pm local time a major earthquake, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale, hit China’s Sichuan province. According to official figures issued on July 21, 2008, almost 70,000 people were confirmed dead, 375,000 were injured, over 18,000 were listed as missing and 4.8 million were made homeless.
