Abstract

We need to be able both to focus in a particular moment and to escape that moment. We need to be able to give an issue our sole, undivided attention but not be so captured by it that we become insensitive to events happening around us. Effective focus is about blanking out irrelevant considerations, but it is also about moving our focus from one area to another, preferably with timing that we control. Focus is all about the quality of our attention.
