Sustained Peacebuilding: The Role of Non-Governmental Organizations and Researchers

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Studies in Diplomacy and International Relations ((SID))

Abstract

There have been a number of developments over the last decade or so that have challenged the exclusive use of official diplomatic repre sen-tatives as peace negotiators and peace brokers, and opened up the field for a range of other actors to supplement and at times replace them. This includes a vast number of civil society and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), national and international, and moreover researchers and research institutes applying a more action oriented agenda and multi-stakeholder diplomacy on the ground.
