Abstract
In Conclusion, I would first like to go back to Constant’s example presented in the Introduction and to show the similarity between Constant’s view of conditional obligations through representation and the view of what is currently called ‘Kantian constructivism’.1 I will present some problems of this approach and, after a summary of the argument so far, I will examine the answers a critical ethics can give to the problems I raised, starting from Constant’s example: the problem of justification, of normativity and of the conflict of liberties. I will then go back once again to Constant’s example and examine some unpalatable implications of the idea of an unconditional obligation to avoid untruthfulness.
