Abstract
In Chapter 1 I noted that there was a longstanding controversy over whether it was possible to separate the philosophical and sociopolitical aspects of Comte’s work, either conceptually or textually. In this chapter I consider the most influential attempts to achieve such a separation and their effect on positivist doctrine.
