Abstract
Social indicators research has been neglected for a considerable amount of time. In recent years, there has been a revival of interest in constructing systematic ways of dealing with social dimensions of development, complementary to those indicators which are commonly used to measure economic dimensions of development. Accompanying the recent resurgence of social indicators research are fundamental questions concerning the choice of indicators to be included in the effort to identify variables or measures which reveal a window into ‘quality of life’.
