Abstract

In accordance with the foregoing discussion, the fact that Goodman wishes to move the aesthetic and the rational closer together does not bring about any corrosion, so to speak, of rationality by irrational feeling and emotion, but bestows a sense of enriched and amplified significance upon otherwise wearisome activities. Equally, feeling and emotion become an affair for the understanding, when the latter is not taken as demonstrative reason but as a particular aspect of symbolization.
