Abstract

The above is the opening sentence of Raymond Williams’ book Towards 2000. Williams has much to say in his book which speaks to us today, with regard to hope and fear and in relation to politics, planning and even political manifesto writing. At the time of writing (late 2009) the prospect of a general election and frantic manifesto writing is in the air.
