Abstract
Having completed an overview of the abolition movements in three separate European countries, we can abstract from the particulars of each nation’s experience. The previous chapters suggest that despite radically differing historical contexts, certain broad historical patterns were common to abolition in all three countries. In this chapter, I will elaborate on some of these broad patterns in an attempt to show how that abolition of capital punishment fits well within the elite-driven European model of criminal justice policy formation.
