Abstract
Key Historical Events. The Bulgarian state was founded in 681, but fell under Turkish rule in 1396. By the Treaty of Berlin (1878), the Principality of Bulgaria was constituted under Turkish suzerainty. On 5 Oct. 1908 Bulgaria declared her independence of Turkey.
