Abstract

The Dominion of Pakistan was constituted on 14 Aug., 1947, under the provisions of the Indian Independence Act, 1947, which received the royal assent on 18 July, 1947. The Dominion consists of the following former territories of British India :—Balúchistán, East Bengal (including almost the whole of Sylhet, a former district of Assam), North-West Frontier, West Punjab and Sind; and those States which have acceeded to Pakistan. The seat of government is Karachi. Both Urdu and Bengali have been declared state languages but English will continue as the state language for 20 years.
