Abstract
On 18 April, 1949, the Republic of Ireland Act, passed in Nov., 1948, came into operation. The Irish Republic is a sovereign independent state outside the British Commonwealth. The parliament of the Republic exercises jurisdiction in 26 of the 32 Irish counties.
