Karl I., King of Roumania, born April 20, 1839, son of the late Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen; accepted his election as Prince of Roumania, May 10,1866; assumed the government at Bucharest, May 21, 1866. Proclaimed King of Roumania, March 27, 1881. Married, November 15, 1869, to Princess Elizabeth von Newcied, born December 29, 1843.
