Abstract

This chapter deals with the way contemporary museums are being designed, experienced, and marketed. We explore two fundamental dimensions of museums:

  • “ideology,” or the expression of a museum’s essence – its soul

  • “space,” or the physical presence of museum buildings and premises in cities, and their design principles.
