Abstract
The Lifecourse Stages methodology suggests that time budget data should be analysed according to the major stages of the typical person’s life. There is no standard set of stages, so a researcher has to define a set that is suitable for the task at hand. For the study of time use, a partition into four stages appears to offer a practical way to proceed. These stages are (i) Single, no dependents; (ii) Married, no children; (iii) Married with children; and (iv) Lone parents.
