Abstract
We have seen that family, friends, and school can all have a major impact on the decision of a young person to join a political party. In turn, however, what is the effect of joining a party on the young member’s relationship to his family, friends, and school or work? In fact how does joining a party impact his daily rhythm and his life altogether? As explained in Chapter 1, party membership is first and foremost a highly time consuming form of activism, which requires a high level of commitment. How does this work in practice, and what do young party members sacrifice as a result of their partisanship and their political involvement?
