Abstract

After the development of the assumptions and the building blocks that contribute to management for sustainable performance, we now move on to exploring what leadership and sustainability principles mean within this context. As we will develop in this chapter, leadership shows itself to be the key quality of the manager (a manager is not necessarily a leader) in management for sustainable performance. The motivation, values, focus, interconnectedness on all levels, of the leader is what is going to make the difference. But leadership in our context does not go without the concept of sustainability. Leadership and sustainability are intimately intertwined, at least within a holistic management view.
