The objective of this chapter is to review the primary institutions of international society in relation to the Middle East, and analyse how they agree or differ from the global understanding. Given the constitutive character of institutions in forming international society and defining its nature, this exercise will help to elucidate the questions whether the Middle East is a regional international society and where the region stands in relation to the global pattern.
