Abstract

We have more leisure time than ever. And how do we fill it? Bettering the mind; family outings; restoring the soul? Charitable work, keep fit, even DIY? No. Watching television. Studies conducted in both Europe and America over the past forty years have shown a steady, linear increase in daily time spent watching television. We watch round about three hours per day. Figures from different studies are surprisingly consistent. Like it or not, deny it or not, we spend one eighth of the day watching the box.
