During Rehearsals

  • Andrew James Hartley

One of the things that should be established early is the extent of the dramaturg’s presence in rehearsals and when that presence will be most clearly felt, since random dramaturgical visitations tend to minimize influence, invariably leading to situations where crucial decisions that could have used the dramaturg’s input get made in her absence. The general rule, needless to say, is that the dramaturg who is most present throughout the process is likely to have the most input and be viewed as an integral member of the production team.
