Abstract
The education system in Taiwan, similar to other education systems in East Asia, has undergone an enormous transformation over the last two decades. Education has become interconnected with the trends of globalization and internationalization, the development of information communications technology, and a set of political, sociological, economic, and management changes. For example, internationalization is taught through foreign language and history classes, and technology has made its way into Taiwanese classrooms in the form of the Internet, electronic blackboards, computers, and televisions, while classroom management policies have also undergone enormous changes such as the ban on physical punishment in classrooms. These shifts together have had a multifaceted impact on education in Taiwan. In particular, the ideology of globalization and localization acts as one of the driving policy agendas in Taiwan.
