Abstract
Latina/o community media promote social justice not only in Latino communities but also within the broader landscape of US civil society. As global media conglomerates continue to dominate cultural and political spheres with commercially oriented information, community media become critical sites of intervention within and outside American borders. In the context of US Latina/o civil society, Spanish-language and bilingual community media are increasingly important, since the major forms of mass communication are not only commercialized but also owned and operated by corporations that view Latino-oriented media as part of an overall business strategy.
