Abstract

A potato grower in Honduras turns on his mobile phone and sees a text message saying that the price of potatoes has gone up in the Tegucigalpa market. He has been receiving price information twice a week for the last two months, and now sees that the prices he has negotiated with the wholesaler have slowly been improving. As a small producer, he used to sell his products directly from his farm using the prices in his local area as his only benchmark. Many times, these prices were lower than actual market prices.
