Abstract

The focus of this book is the acting, theatre, and performance aesthetics of late medieval English religious vernacular theatre. The performativity and theory of the mystery plays are sophisticated and complex and express an enactment aesthetic that rests upon the dialogic nature of theatre and performance. Rather than concealing the theatrical mechanism medieval religious theatre celebrates its dual reference.
