Abstract

In Peru, most of the stereotypes and conventions in graphics were built in spaces set aside for humor. Inside these spaces, comics accomplished a fundamental role, since they gave shape to the narrative of three of the most important representations of the Peruvian way of thinking in the twentieth century: criollismo (advocacy of native character) or the ability to escape norms, the ridicule of the political system, and racial/cultural representations. Although the history of Peruvian comics has been discontinuous, it is clear that, until it managed to become professionalized, this medium grew hand in hand with three projects: a literature centered on regional manners and customs known as costumbrismo (1887–1890), the ensuing modernism (1907–1910), and a later stage of nationalism (1952–1975).

At ender al pasado. Vivir el presente. Adelantarse al futuro. A veces presiento una perspective desde la- que se sup era mi mirada lineal.
